Are you searching and sampling trying to find the perfect cake for your wedding? Let us introduce you to Portland cake designer Artisan Cake Company. I met Liz somewhat randomly at a stylized inspiration shoot. In a span of just a few months, it seemed as if we were two peas in a pod, showing up for the same photoshoots and events. I was sold the minute I tasted these decadent nougat’s she made for our look book and it was then that I fell in love with her creations, immediately seeing the talent, diversity and her love of cake designing. Waste no time, Liz books fast – and it’s no wonder! Her cakes truly are a piece of art! Artisan Cake Company on the web and Artisan Cake Company on Facebook
What is a typical day for you?
It depends on the day. Being a small business owner, I have to wear many hats but over the years I have worked it out to a simple science. Sunday-Monday I have (off) but usually I spend these days doing fun projects like creating tutorials or blogging. Tuesdays are supply shopping days and answering emails! Wednesdays are for making decorations and prepping for the weekends cakes. Thursday and Friday I bake and decorate the cakes, Saturday I deliver! Saturday night I drink a nice big glass of beer to celebrate!
What project, event or moment are you most proud of?
Very hard to choose one… rather it’s a recurring moment for me. That moment I deliver the cake and the client just flips out with excitement. Seriously, that is a priceless feeling. If I didn’t need to pay my bills I would most likely make cakes just for the reactions of my clients.
What makes your work and/or your business unique?
I’m honestly not sure. I try not to pay attention to what other bakeries are doing. I just try to do my best every day and if I’m not happy with the work I’m doing, I won’t do it. It’s always been about the quality and the craftsmanship for me.
Name one of your favorite vendor sources that you couldn’t do without.
Obviously I adore Something Borrowed Portland Vintage Rentals! However, I also love working with Swoon Floral Design, Krissy Allori Photography, Emily G Photography and Aniko Productions! I also have a huge crush on Royal Steamline which I have only sorta worked with once but stalk them obsessively on Instagram.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere! I feel like all I do is look at textures, colors, patterns in nature, fashion trends, jewelry etc. Everything is potentially a cake design.
Describe your client.
My clients are awesome! They are creative, fun and adventurous! My brides are bold and elegant and love details. My special occasion clients know exactly what they want and are super fun to collaborate with! Most of all, my clients let me be creative which I am forever thankful for.
