Skyler and Kyle tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony hosted at the Long Farm Barn in West Linn, OR. A historic working farm since the early 1900’s (and a property with ties to the Daniel Boone family), the locale provided the backdrop for a wedding punctuated with seasonal flowers and vintage decor. The couple used the circa 1887 Queen Anne Victorian home to prepare for their nuptials. The ceremony itself was held under the largest tree in Clackamas County, flanked by vintage urns and milk pails filled with bouquets of lavender. The bride carried a bouquet of soft white roses and greenery, and the bridesmaids carried bunches of lavender. Chalkboard signs pointed the way to the festivities, and a vintage dresser and window provided a unique way to showcase the drinks bar. Vintage apple boxes and crates propped up important photos of the couple, and guests enjoyed rustic lawn games such as croquet, cornhole, and ring toss. The fun vintage vibe of the festivities was captured against a photo backdrop adorned with scraps of fabric and a gorgeous clear day in Oregon.

This gorgeous Oregon Red Ridge Farms wedding had scenery that could make any heart skip a beat! California couple, Danielle & Jeff love the Pacific Northwest and knew that Red Ridge Farms was perfect for their wedding day. This fun loving couple had an event full of love, affection and laughter. And their friends & family were a blast! Their infectious joy was obvious from our initial meeting and we loved helping them complete their decor! Their color pallet was a mix of purple, grey and natural linen with flowers inspired by the beauty of a Pacific Northwest garden: peonies, dusty miller, wax flower, dahlias fresh berries and garden roses, with lush green foliage to give is a posey feel.  The addition of succulents, manzanita branches and rustic wooden vessels was beautiful with their linen table runners and gold flatware.

I admit, I cannot get enough of barn weddings.  While commuting a few years ago, I’d pass by one little red house with the most adorable barn.  Never fail, every time I drive by I would say to myself “one day…”.  There’s something so intimate about a barn, knowing how rich the history must be and what great stories each one has.  A barn wedding is such a great way to mix the old with the new and a perfect place for a rustic or country wedding.  You can dress them up or down, matching your personal style and taste. Here are a few of my favorite barn weddings…

One styling question we are often asked is how to dress up a dessert display.  There are so, so many variations on how to incorporate your favorite vintage or rustic pieces into a cake or dessert display, I thought I’d show you a few of my personal favorites as well as pieces from our inventory that can help you achieve the look.

Dessert Display Styling

There’s a lot to think about when styling your dessert display, including the backdrop, linens or other table coverings, labeling, the vessels used and of course, the goodies themselves.  Some pieces to help you with your dessert display styling may be vintage serving ware such as pedestals, wood crates and suitcases to give height or layering vintage plates on candlesticks for a more customized cake (or pie) pedestal. There are also other options aside from a plain table and linen, such as a vintage sewing machine table, dresser, desk or a rustic farm table.

We were approached over the summer to help with a longhorn ranch inspiration shoot with super sweet Kelly Lindmeier.  Kelly had a great vision and we couldn’t wait to see the results from her amazing photography.  The location was on her aunt’s property on Outpost Longhorn Ranch complete with an old rustic barn which lended itself well to the theme of the shoot.  From the rolling green hills to the stunning floral, this is one great rustic, ranch style shoot that we were proud to be a part of. Since this wasn’t a traditional shoot, pies and tarts were provided by Pacific Pie Co. which looked gorgeous next to the floral by East West Floral Arts. When you’re done here, visit the full feature via Le Magifique.

Friday Favorites: Inventory Inspiration

Galvanized containers such as buckets, pitchers, and tubs happens to be one of our favorite textures and material.  They ooze with country flair and remind us of backyard BBQ’s, long summer nights and fish camp in Alaska.  Using galvanized decor is not only great for creating a rustic or farm-inspired wedding, but fills a practical need for holding or carrying items, including little ones! Use galvanized containers to:

  • Store floral arrangements
  • Serve or chill your favorite beverage
  • Add texture and height to style a dessert table
  • Display favors
  • Hold ribbon pennants or sparklers
  • Line a ceremony aisle with flowers, candles and other decorative pieces
  • Photo props for baby, maternity or family sessions

Today’s round of Friday Favorites {Inventory Inspiration} showcases bushel baskets, aka apple baskets.  You may have seen these rustic, farm inspired baskets in our inventory and thought, what would I do with them?  While utilitarian, bushel baskets add great farm appeal to your wedding or event.  Needing to spruce up a fall wedding, these baskets can help!

Friday Favorites {Inventory Inspiration}

Today’s Friday Favorites {Inventory Inspiration} is short and sweet with a cool find: mattress springs!  When I first laid eyes on the mattress spring we have in our inventory, I knew we had to have it.  They make such a statement, with all their rusted, rustic charm.  It was obvious the one we have spent a fair amount of time in a garden, with its many dried vines still attached to each spring.  We plan on showcasing ours as a wall display, hanging from the ceiling to give our new studio space that perfect industrial feel.

This is a great example of the many things you can do with an old mattress spring.  Tuck flowers into each spring, add some trailing greenery, and a banner, and you have one piece that’s sure to make a statement! {source: Sarah McKenzie Photography via Style Me Pretty}

Another great example is this “escort card holder”, as shown here.  Attach each escort card with clothespins for a rustic look.  {source: Meegan Weaver Photography via Style Me Pretty}
